Obesity Center

Obesity, which is defined as excessive accumulation of body fat, leads to many diseases ranging from respiratory failure and cardiovascular diseases to sleep apnea and cancer. Basically, when the fight against obesity begins early, far long-standing results can be obtained. Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is calculated in order to determine if you are obese or not. The Body Mass Index is defined as the body mass divided by the square of the body height. BMI over 30 is defined as obese, and BMI over 35 is defined as morbid obesity.

TARGETED MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH AT MEDISTATE OBESITY CENTER

Identification and elimination of the underlying factors is very important for successful outcome in the treatment of obesity. Otherwise, the lost weights are regained quickly, and the same problems recur. Ability to decrease body weight by 10% in a 6-month period makes significant contribution to prevention of other problems caused by the obesity. However, if the underlying factors cannot be eliminated, the patients regain the weights lost, and sustainable recovery cannot be achieved. At Medistate Obesity Center, causative factors of the obesity are identified and multiple medical disciplines cooperate to decide the best method for the patient. In this system, which is also known as multidisciplinary approach, the patient is assessed by Obesity Surgery, Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases, Nutrition and Diet, Physical Treatment and Rehabilitation, and Psychology clinics before the treatment modality is finally decided.
